Firm cites 2024 manufacturer recall of the Cartiva Synthetic Cartilage Implant

CLEVELAND — Tittle & Perlmuter is advocating for injured Ohioans who received a Cartiva Synthetic Cartilage Implant and later experienced complications from device failure. Attorney Meghan P. Connolly recently joined the Cartiva MDL Leadership for plaintiffs injured by the device.

The Cartiva Synthetic Cartilage Implant device was used to treat arthritis at the base of the big toe, designed as an alternative to joint fusion surgery. In 2024, the manufacturer issued a recall of the device after post-market safety information raised concerns about its failure rates.

Reported complications associated with Cartiva implant failure include:

Ongoing or worsening pain
Implant subsidence (sinking into surrounding bone)
Implant displacement or migration
Implant fragmentation
Nerve damage
Implant removal
Revision surgery

The recall does not automatically mean every patient who received the device has a viable claim. Tittle & Perlmuter says it is evaluating cases individually for inclusion in the MDL.
